Mary Mercer

MERCER, Mary Madeline, Born on April 27, 1943 in Downey, Calif., the oldest daughter of Andrew and Madeline Copeland, longtime residents of the Antelope Valley.  With her family by her side she succumbed to cancer on July 22, 2011.  Mary attended Palmdale schools, graduating from Palmdale High School and Antelope Valley College.  Mary had a very successful career in the property and casualty insurance industry from which she retired after more than 50 years of dedicated service.  She lived in San Diego for many years but after retirement moved back to the Antelope Valley area in order to be close to her family whom she loved very much.  She was preceded in death by her mother and father and infant sister Jennifer Janice.  Mary is survived by her husband Frank, sister Lynda Alexander (Stephen) of Boise, Idaho, sister Kathleen Parker of Redondo Beach, her brothers, Allan Copeland (Valerie), Paul Copeland, sister, Lydia Copeland and brother David Copeland (Chari) all of Leona Valley; and several nieces and nephews.  Mary’s family gave her incredible joy and brought the biggest of smiles to her beautiful face.  They returned her love, always inviting her to join them in their activities and lives.  She will be missed and remembered for a well-lived and well-loved life of courage, strength, and beautiful grace.  Funeral services will be held at 10:30am, Thursday, July 28, 2011 at Chapel of the Valley Mortuary Palmdale.  Interment to follow at Desert Lawn Memorial Park.  Please sign the condolence book at: chapelofthevalleymortuary.com.
