Janet Quier

November 14, 1952 — April 15, 2017

Janet (Lewis) Quier became an angel in her Lord’s heavenly choir on April 15, 2017 after fighting a valiant battle against Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy. She was born in Lancaster, CA at a small hospital located on the corner of Lancaster Blvd. and Cedar Ave. on November 14, 1952. Her parents, Walter John Jr and Geraldine Y Lewis welcomed Janet as their third child.   Janet’s early life was spent on the Lewis Ranch located at 135th St. East and Ave. Q. The family moved to Palmdale in 1953 when Janet was a year old. Janet began her academic years in Palmdale, continuing her education in Lancaster then on to Pomona, Ca, only to return to Palmdale. She graduated from Palmdale High School, class of 1970.   While in high school, Janet was active in Girls Athletic Association, held offices in student government, and was crowned Christmas Princess. Her extracurricular activities included being an active member of Job’s Daughters where she was installed as honored queen in 1970.    Janet continued her education at Antelope Valley College receiving her license as an X-Ray technician in 1972. In 1980, Janet completed the rigorous coursework to become a certified ultrasonographer. Janet devoted 30 years to a career that she loved.   In 1973 Janet married her high school sweetheart and became Mrs. Ernest (Ernie) Andrew Quier. The newlyweds resided in Lancaster, CA. Janet and Ernie welcomed their first daughter, Julie Lynn, in 1977. Their second daughter, Jessica Lorraine, joined the family in 1979. They completed their family with the arrival of their third daughter, Jolene Louise, in 1981.   Janet and her family moved to Maine in 1982 when Ernie furthered his education in nurse anesthesia. After a brief return to Lancaster, the family moved to Ridgecrest, CA where Janet remained for the next 28 years.   As a devoted mother and Ridgecrest resident, she became an active volunteer and member in her community. Janet was involved in a local sorority organization and was a docent at the Maturango Museum for a period of time in the mid 1980’s. While her daughters were in school she donated her services extensively in the classroom and joined the school PTA. Janet became a leader of multiple Girl Scout troops, including 2 troops that benefitted from the experience of traveling to Hawaii. She loved supporting local children that had the courage to ask, she would purchase whatever they were selling. Janet would donate her time and energy to support any activity in which her children were involved. These included but were not limited to High Desert Swim Team, Burroughs High School athletics (swim team, volleyball, and basketball), and Burroughs High School band and orchestra.   Another important part of Janet’s life was her commitment to her faith. She was a dedicated member of the Ridgecrest Presbyterian Church where she sang in the choir and performed duties as a sunday school teacher and served as a deacon.   As Janet’s health declined, she spent almost 2 years in various healthcare facilities around Southern California, only to return to her childhood home in Palmdale for her final year and a half. It is a comfort to know Janet received excellent care in her final years. She was cared for by her daughter Jolene. The family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to nurse Nancy and nurse Sherry for the care they provided for Janet.   Janet was preceded in death by her father, Walter John Lewis Jr. and mother Geraldine Y Lewis. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Ernie; daughter Julie Spence of Greenbrier, TN; daughter Jessica Quier and life partner Catrina Boehlke of Nampa, ID; daughter Jolene Quier of Palmdale, CA; 3 grandchildren, Wyatt Spence, Morgan Spence, and Jordan Boehlke-Quier; Siblings, Rich (Terry) Lewis, Judi Roberts, and Jeff Lewis; sister-in-law Lynda Fox; and numerous nieces and nephews.   Services for Janet will be held on May 6, 2017 at 11 AM at Ridgecrest Presbyterian Church, 633 Las Flores Ave, Ridgecrest, CA 93555. At Janet’s request in lieu of flowers, contributions to the Ridgecrest Presbyterian Church would be appreciated.
