Harvey Birsner

BIRSNER, MD, Harvey A.,
72, A member of the AV medical community for 41 years, died of cancer at his home in Santa Monica, Calif. on May 25, 2013.  Dr. Birsner received his medical degree from University of California San Francisco, and his postgraduate neurosurgical training at Parkland Memorial Hospital, in Dallas. He arrived in the Antelope Valley in 1972 after his military service as Chief of Neurosurgery at the US Naval Hospital, in Philadelphia.  He was AV's first neurosurgeon, and served on the medical staff of each of the Valley's hospitals.  In addition to multiple medical staff appointments, he served twice as a Trustee of the AV Healthcare District between the years 1980 and 1996.  He is survived by his ex-wife, Donna, of Park City, Utah, two sisters, Elizabeth of Santa Cruz, Calif., and Margaret who lives in Israel, and his brother, John W. Birsner, Jr. of Lancaster, Calif. who is an actively practicing physician in the AV.  He is also survived by his two step-sisters, Robin of Canada, and Jennifer and her son, Alexander of Portland, Oreg., his step brother, Stephen of San Luis Obispo, Calif., and Numerous other family and friends.  He is preceded in death by his parents, and his adoptive father, Dr. J.W. Birsner, Sr.  Funeral Services will be held at 9:30am, on Saturday, June 1, 2013, at St. Andrews Abbey in Valyermo, CA.  In lieu of flowers, donations could be made to the American Cancer Society.  You may sign the condolence book at: www.chapelofthevalleymortuary.com.  Chapel of the Valley Mortuary, Palmdale Directors.
