Gerald Owen Moffett

January 5, 1942 — January 19, 2024

Littlerock

Gerald (Jerry) Owen Moffett passed away on January 19, 2024, at the age of 82, in his hometown of Littlerock, California.  His battle with his heart and lung issues in recent years showed his courage in facing life challenges with a smile and determination.  Despite it all, Jerry stayed strong until the end.

Jerry was born and raised in Los Angeles California.  He attended St. Michael’s Catholic school from first grade through eighth grade and then attended George Washington High School until graduation.  After graduating high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served on the USS Wexford County, LST-1168 from 1960 – 1962.  He was honorably discharged in 1962.   From there, Jerry worked as a security guard at the Palmdale airport and Edwards Airforce Base.  Then in 1970 he joined the Los Angeles County Road Department, rose through the ranks, and retired in 2002 as a Power Equipment Operator.  In retirement, he had several hobbies, but his favorite was working with wood.  He built many bookcases, clocks, china hutches, cedar chests, and toy boxes all for friends and family.  When it became too much to build furniture, he took up working with a scroll saw.

Jerry met the love of his life, Christine, on a blind date. Instantly they were in love and married on September 30, 1988.  Jerry and Christine were married for 35 years!   This blended family has a total of five children:  Mike, Sheila, Danny, Robert, and Jeffrey.

Jerry is survived by his wife Christine, his son Mike Moffett (Lauri), Danny Moffett (Tammy), Robert Wood (Carrianne), and daughter Sheila Clausen (Daniel).  He had 6 grandchildren (Jeremy, Steven, Johnathan, Kayla, Caitlin, and Sarah) and 5 great-grandchildren (Roxie, Hunter, Henry, Braxson, and Nixon).  He is preceded in death by his parents Ruth Jackson and Jack Moffett and son Jeffrey.  Having never met his father who died in WWII, we know that Jerry has now met his father for the first time.

Jerry will be honored with a celebration of life starting with the viewing on January 26, 2024, at Halley Olsen Chapel of the Valley Funeral Home in Palmdale California.  A funeral service on January 27, 2024, at the Pearblossom Community United Methodist Church in Pearblossom California.   The burial will follow the reception at the church at Victor Valley Memorial Park in Victorville California.
