To Peter and Sylvia Krank  The family lived on a farm in South Heart, a small community west of Dickinson. Moms sister Norma 1 year older, brother Caddie 2 years older and brother Harold 3 years older. Peter died when my mom was barely two years old. Mom Sylvia moved into town and worked in a dress shop.  If times were tough mom never mentioned that part. Mom cherished her siblings and stayed close to them and their children. In her last years she had visits from 2 of her nieces, Denise , Caddys daughter and  Karen, Harolds daughter. We heard so many stories from her life, she had an incredible memory and a knack for telling these her storys.  Mom was a cheerleader for 4 years,  her older brothers made sure she was elected that 1st year as a freshman ( that’s her story )They protected her and Norma  I am sure like older brothers should.  She loved to dance and would enter jitterbug contests and WIN of course.  She met Bob Walton after high School and married this guy from the “right”side of the tracks .  They Married in 1949 In Dickinson ND and proceeded have many  children Bob Walton was a traveling salesman for Weyerhaeuser Lumber. Moms firstborn Michael died one day after birth(from the same lung condition that John Kennedys baby had).  Betty Jo and Bobby were both born in Dickinson ND.  Janie was born in Eugene Oregon , Paul was born in Lewiston Idaho. Tracy was born in Minot and then the Walton family moved to Palmdale, Calif in 1960.  Marimicheal was born in Lancaster. Mom was the BEST mother ,  she loved her kids, the kids friends, neighborhood kids. She just had a knack for loving everyone equally.  Our dad left in 1965 and my mom took care of her children and we never went without. Mom became very involved in St. Marys grade School in Palmdale , just a ½ block from her home, which all of us attended. From there came life long friendships. She and other young moms ran the lunch program at St Marys. And then there were the pepper belly booths at St. Marys Festival. Our mom was always known for her GREAT COOKING,   and she would tell you she made THE BEST Pies, fudge, divinity, all kinds of cookies, all kinds of cassaroles. Her beef stew was the  best, her chili, her goulash, her roast beef dinner, and of COURSE her mashed potatoes and gravy. Oh, and her turkey (always a butterball), turkey stuffing, her creamed onions and her homemade cranberries. Her world famous TACOS (always a part of trick and treat on halloween night) will forever be made by us kids. Recipe: Corn Tortilla and then smash the meat on one side, fry in hot oil. Lettuce ,onion ,tomatoes ,cheese, avocado and always tomato sauce with garlic salt hot from the pan on the oven. Try as we might not a one of us EVER made ANY dish as good as our mom. This is the TRUTH.   In the late 60’s Mom married Arnie Thompson. After moms’ marriage her social life greatly improved. They were camping, golfing, bowling, and playing Contract Bridge. Mom became an exceptional bridge player. She went on to achieve the title of “Life Master” a very exclusive club in the world of Bridge. She had many lifelong friends from her bridge and played up into her 80’s. Arnie had 4 kids, Mark, Judy, Mary and Kathy, they became her “kids” too. Family gatherings were so fun and filled with her amazing food.  As the years went on the family grew and grew.   Kids had kids, then those kids had kids.  And NOW her ability to love grew and grew. She had babies and toddlers and grade schoolers and teens to love and bestow her specialness on. She was amazing, that woman. She loved unconditionally ,she loved us dearly and we all loved her.   Even though our mom never went to college she was so smart, she excelled at crossword puzzles and didn’t even find the puzzles from the “Times” too hard.  Always amazing us with her knowledge and answer to almost any question.   Doris, our mom, grandma, grandma dodo,  you will live in our hearts forever. God Bless you Mom, for being you. There isn’t one person who crossed your path who didn’t think you were special. We will miss you always. ? Those we love don't go away, They walk beside us everyday, Unseen, unheard, but always near, Still loved, still missed and very dear.
